that glorious song of old

Rose and I flapper-ed it up this afternoon while my parents were on their way to and from Dulles airport picking up my brother. We had the house to ourselves and watched two chick flicky movies (including bonus features, of course), made milkshakes, filled a box with tissue paper flowers, and took flapper pictures!

The full outfit. Mid-sentence, as usual.

This one is my favorite:)

Showstopper.

Also, I adore this picture.

Shimmy shimmy.

Don't I have a simply breathtaking kid sister?

She took some pretty snazzy pics of me, too. The girl has terrific potential. In everything she does, gosh darnit. She is going to show me and my brother up.

oh my my my

MONDO HAS A LENS CAP AGAIN!
I'm so happy! :) Rose, Ella and I took these pictures before swim team the other day when Ella rode the bus home with me. It was absolutely divine to have him back again after all that time. As you can see, I went rather crazy. These are only a few of the pictures I took.

the song sings itself

This is Ella.

This is Ella's sister Thea.

This is Ella's brother Joey.

Oooh, eyes. I LOVE this picture.

For the record, I think I took all of these but Ella and I were sharing the camera and so she might have taken some of them, I don't know which ones. Not the ones of her. :)

In answer to the question I know is burning inside you, no, Mondo is not the capturer of these photos, they were taken with my humble point-and-shoot, Stella. However, Mondo's new lens cap arrived today, so he is once again at my disposal!

vivian maier

Ok, so I keep finding, or rather being made aware of by others (usually my darling mum) all these amazing, often unknown, photographers. So today, be inspired by:

Vivian Maier

One day, John Maloof bought a box of 200 negatives at an auction, hoping they were vintage photos of his neighborhood. Instead, they were Vivian Maier's. He tracked down all her other photos, and most of her belongings, and set about scanning them and learning more about her.

She made her living as a nanny, first in New York, then in Chicago. She never showed anyone her photos other than the children she nannied. She was a reserved person, and lived life on her own terms.

She died recently, at age 83.

Her photos are now becoming more and more public, with exhibitions in Scandinavia, London, and New York coming soon or happening now.

Her photos are filled with humanity and warmth. It is surprising to hear of her reserved nature, when so many of her subject seem to have made such a connection with her.

All photos by Vivian Maier/John Maloof Collection. Photos, facts, and most opinions found here.
